As the Sumo Logic design team scaled beyond 6 designers, we had to evolve our communication artifacts. Our personas were critical to communication within and outside the design team. We often rely on storyboards and diagrams to communicate product vision. I turned our personas into emojis and created a symbol library so our product designers can easily make a storyboard without worrying about visual design. This effort also helped the company understand better our customer segments as the emojis appeared in presentations and workflow maps.
